‘Thousand and One Nights’ is a play that reinterprets the spirit of ‘1001 Nights’ folktales through a contemporary lens. Blending Theatre, music and visual storytelling to explore loneliness, intimacy, and the transformative power of art.
Set in a modern city of empty nights, Shah—a young man shattered by a breakup—retreats into emotionally disconnected encounters. One evening, he meets Shahrzad, a captivating storyteller whose tales unfold into surreal, musical fairytales.
Drawing on the narrative spirit of the original ‘1001 Nights’, this adaptation is a poetic reflection on the power of storytelling in the contemporary age.
With minimal staging, dreamlike visuals, and an original score, ‘Thousand and One Nights’ invites the audience into a shared emotional space between myth and memory.
This production of ‘Thousand and One Nights’ is a collaborative work by a group of emerging artists from SAE Institute Berlin, working across disciplines such as theatre, music, and visual arts.
The adaptation is led by writer and creative director Nyaz Behdarvand, whose reimagining of the folktale centres emotional healing through art.
The team combines minimal stage design, music, and cinematic atmosphere to create an intimate and sensory performance.
This project marks their first full-length theatrical collaboration as a collective. Their work focuses on vulnerability, symbolism, and cross-medium storytelling.
