Battle of Mosul

Das Stück „Die Schlacht von Mossul“  von  Alexey Zhitkovsky spielt in der  kleinen irakischen Stadt Mossul, in der tausende Zivilisten während des Krieges starben.  Das Stück beschäftigt sich mit Feindbildern, mit der Militarisierung der Gesellschaft und dem Versuch der Menschen sich vom Krieg, der nicht ihrer ist, zu distanzieren.

Die gesamten Spenden gehen an die humanitären Programme «Medical Aid Ukraine» und «Emergency Response Ukraine» der deutschen Hilfsorganisation Aid Pioneers.

Alexey Zhitkovsky is a playwright, screenwriter, and director. He was born in Omsk in 1982 and has been living in Nizhnevartovsk since 2006.


He graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at Omsk State University in 2004, and from Heriot-Watt University in 2005. In 2015, he graduated from the Screenwriting and Film Department of VGIK.


Zhitkovsky is the author of plays such as Gorka, Misanthrope, Shop, Cosmos, The Battle for Mosul, Planting a Tree, and others. He has participated in and won drama competitions and festivals such as Lubimovka, First Reading, Author's Stage, Actors, Eurasia, Remarque, Initial Event 21st Century, Culmination, and others. His plays have been staged in theaters in Russian cities, Vilnius, Riga, Kiev, and Belgrade.


As a director, Zhitkovsky has worked on films such as the documentary "Monument," which was a participant in ArtdocNet 2016, and the short film "When I was little, I loved to look at the fire," which won the prize for the best role at Bitter Fest 2021. He is also the author of the script "Stars," which was directed by A. Novikov-Yanginov in 2018 and won the prize for the best debut at the festival "Stalker 2018."

In «Battle of Mosul» by Alexey Zhitkovsky action takes place in a small town in Iraq, where thousands of civilians died during the war. The themes of the play are search for enemies, an attempt to distance themselves from someone else's war, and militarization.


All funds raised from ticket sales will be donated to the 'Aid Pioneers' a German charity organization, delivering humanitarian programs 'Medical Aid Ukraine' and 'Emergency Response Ukraine'.
