Acid - The Opera
Gastspiel aus Dresden
„Acid – the Opera“ ist der performative Teil einer umfassenderen Recherchearbeit, die die Untersuchung von Existenzweisen außerhalb des kapitalistischen Systems, sowie von durch den Kapitalismus geprägten Lebensverhältnissen als Vehikel für Inspiration, Kreation und Ausdruck nutzt.
Das Stück ist inspiriert durch das Wort Acid und seine diversen Bedeutungen.
Es ist eine Arbeit, in der der Künstler Carles A. Washington als Soloperformer auf absurde Weise diverse historische und gegenwärtige Charaktere verkörpert, um die Unmöglichkeit nicht linearer-Zeit und im gleichen Zuge andere Arten von Realität zu erforschen.
Charles A. Washington was born in Perth, Scotland, in 1982. He started his dance education at age 21 when he was accepted unconditionally to Rambert School in London. After graduating, he worked nationally and internationally with prestigious choreographers such as Ross Mckim, Fleur Darkin, Will Tucket, Lucy Burge, Cesc Gelabert, Jan Pauch, Yossi Berg & Oded Graf, Katrin Hall, Roy Assaf, Darren Ellis, Maxim Didenko and Vladimir Varnava.
Charles created his freelance company Pinkmetalpetal Productions, in 2012. His latest works include 'Witch way Macbeth?' and 'Content' Staatstheatre Braunschweig; 'The Spirit Bird' and 'finding now' LOT theatre; ‘ME.’incorporation with Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden and the Palucca University of Dance Dresden; M ~ {Birnam woods} Projektheater and ARTE: United We Stream, ‘Performing Maleness: Uncoding me’ and Acid the Opera at the Projektheater; ‘Spinner Light’ and 'Post Ironic Moustache' Hellerau: European Centre of the Arts.
In 2018 Charles graduated with a MA in choreography, and in 2021 he completed his Meisterklasse research called “We are all a subculture?” at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden.
Charles A. Washington is a choreographer, performer and musician based in Dresden, Germany. He is the Artistic Director of his project-based dance company called Pinkmetalpetal Productions. At present, his main artistic focuses on creating spaces and expressions that explore the impossible, the uncertain and the eerie.
„Acid - The Opera“ is the performative part of more extensive research that uses the enquiry into different types of existence outside or through capitalism as the vehicle for inspiration, creation and expression.
It is inspired by the word Acid and its various meanings. It is a work in which Charles A. Washington, as a solo performer, absurdly embodies different historical and present-day characters to explore the impossibility of non-linear time and other types of reality.
